Profile
Antony is a Brazilian winger whose threat starts on the right but often finishes nearer the centre of goal. He uses body feints to create room before bringing the ball onto his left foot. From there he can curl a shot towards the far corner or bend a cross into the penalty area, giving his dribbling a clear attacking purpose.
His early football included street games and futsal, and he has recalled learning tricks with his brother by copying Ronaldinho. He developed in São Paulo's youth system, made his senior debut against Grêmio in November 2018 and helped the club win the Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior in 2019.
The move to Ajax in 2020 brought an immediate introduction to European league football: he scored the only goal on his competitive debut against Sparta Rotterdam that September. He won Dutch league titles in 2021 and 2022, as well as the Dutch Cup in 2021, before moving to Manchester United in 2022.
United added a different chapter to that rise. He won the League Cup and FA Cup during his time there, but a January 2025 loan to Real Betis opened another route. In Spain, Manuel Pellegrini used him on the right alongside creative midfielders including Isco and Giovani Lo Celso.
His contribution to Betis' first European final, in the Conference League, showed both sides of his attacking game. Against Fiorentina on 8 May 2025, he scored from a curling free-kick and later squared the ball for Abde Ezzalzouli's decisive extra-time goal. Betis subsequently brought him back on a permanent transfer from United.
The following European campaign ended in the quarter-finals. In April 2026, Antony headed Betis in front against Braga and combined with Pablo Fornals in the move for their second goal. Braga recovered to win the Europa League quarter-final 5–3 on aggregate, ending Betis' run.
For Brazil, Antony won Olympic gold in 2021 and played at the 2022 World Cup. He was not in Brazil's final squad for the 2026 tournament.
