Profile
Marcus Rashford is an English forward whose game combines fast ball carrying with runs into the space behind a defence. Often starting on the left, he can drive towards the penalty area himself or offer an early target when his team wins possession and attacks before opponents recover.
He began at Fletcher Moss Rangers before joining Manchester United’s youth setup aged seven. His senior breakthrough was unusually abrupt: on 25 February 2016 he scored twice against Midtjylland in the Europa League, then repeated the feat on his Premier League debut against Arsenal three days later.
In 2022/23, Rashford scored 30 goals in all competitions for United and won the club’s Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award. His contribution included carrying the ball past defenders into shooting positions, while United also used his pace to turn regained possession into quick attacks.
His England debut against Australia in May 2016 also brought a goal, and he was selected for that summer’s European Championship. He later helped England reach the Euro 2020 final, played in 2021, which they lost to Italy on penalties.
Loans added new chapters to his club career: Aston Villa in the second half of 2024/25, then Barcelona from July 2025. On 10 May 2026, his free-kick opened the scoring in Barcelona’s 2–0 win over Real Madrid, the match that secured the 2025/26 LaLiga title. Barcelona did not take up their option to buy him, and he returned to Manchester United for 2026/27.
At the 2026 World Cup, Rashford scored in England’s opening 4–2 victory over Croatia. He was part of the squad that finished third, with England beating France 6–4 in the bronze-medal match.
Away from football, his work against child food poverty became a defining part of his public life. During the 2020 pandemic he raised funds for FareShare and campaigned for children’s meals during the school holidays. He received an MBE in the 2020 Birthday Honours.
Marcus Rashford currently plays for Manchester United as a left winger. He has represented England internationally.
