Profile
Senne Lammens is a Belgian goalkeeper who is willing to leave his line to catch crosses. A clean catch turns a ball opponents could attack into possession for his team. His early Manchester United performances made that approach particularly noticeable.
His development took him through KRC Bambrugge and Dender before Club Brugge’s academy. There was an unusual attacking contribution along the way: in the 2019/20 UEFA Youth League, he headed in a stoppage-time corner against Real Madrid to secure a 2-2 draw for Brugge’s under-19s.
Lammens made his senior Brugge debut in a 3-2 Belgian Super Cup victory over Genk, stepping in when Simon Mignolet was unavailable. Opportunities remained limited behind Mignolet. He moved to Royal Antwerp in June 2023 and became their first-choice goalkeeper for the 2024/25 season, establishing himself through regular senior football.
His distribution also illustrates the difference between a goalkeeper’s ability and the instructions he follows. In November 2025, Premier League analysis noted that his United goal kicks consistently travelled long towards the left wing, while he still played short passes in open play. Catching crosses and choosing when to send the ball further forward were distinct parts of his contribution.
He joined Manchester United on 1 September 2025 and made his debut against Sunderland on 4 October, keeping a clean sheet. His first English season brought individual recognition: supporters voted him the Premier League’s Barclays Transfer of the Season for 2025/26.
After representing Belgium at youth level, Lammens earned his first senior cap in November 2025 and was selected for the 2026 World Cup. He then appeared as a substitute for Thibaut Courtois in the quarter-final against Spain on 10 July. Belgium lost 2-1, ending their tournament at the last-eight stage.
