Profile
Rasmus Højlund is a Danish centre-forward whose movement is geared towards reaching the goalmouth. He combines powerful running with angled changes of direction, attacking the space behind a defender’s shoulder before accelerating towards a low cross. His threat often comes from the run before the finish.
Born on 4 February 2003, he joined FC Copenhagen’s youth setup from Hørsholm Usserød IK and made his senior debut in October 2020. His January 2022 move to Sturm Graz offered a clearer route to regular first-team football, as Copenhagen’s sporting director explained at the time.
The move to Austria quickly became a stepping stone to Italy. Højlund scored 12 goals in 21 league and cup appearances for Sturm before joining Atalanta in August 2022. His single season there produced ten goals in 34 appearances across all competitions, followed by a move to Manchester United in August 2023.
One notable spell at United came in February 2024, when he became the youngest player to score in six consecutive Premier League appearances. He also won the FA Cup that season, featuring in the final as United beat Manchester City 2–1.
For Denmark, his hat-trick against Finland on 23 March 2023 supplied all three goals in a 3–1 European Championship qualifying win in Copenhagen. Two of those goals arrived late in the match, turning a level score into victory.
He returned to Italian football on loan at Napoli in September 2025 and scored on his debut against Fiorentina. That December he helped Napoli win the Italian Super Cup, scoring in the semi-final against AC Milan. Napoli confirmed his permanent transfer from United in June 2026.
Højlund’s size does not make him solely a target for high balls. Premier League analysis of his 2022/23 goals highlighted how often he arrived for low deliveries inside the six-yard box. He generally stays central, but can move into a channel to cross or cut the ball back. Those choices give teammates both a runner to find and an outlet around the penalty area.
Rasmus Højlund currently plays for Napoli as a striker. He has represented Denmark internationally.
