Profile
Tino Livramento is a full-back whose attacking value begins with the ground he covers before delivering the ball. From a wide position, he can carry past an opponent, overlap a winger or cross. He also reads loose balls and recovers possession: the forward run is only half the job.
He developed at Chelsea from under-nine level and played as a wing-back in the academy. Chelsea named him its 2020/21 Academy Player of the Year. He moved to Southampton in August 2021 and entered the senior squad.
His first Southampton season showed both sides of the role. Premier League analysis early in 2021/22 noted his forward carries and crosses alongside his ball recovery. One long run past Fred against Manchester United ended in a dangerous delivery. An ACL injury against Brighton in April 2022 interrupted his progress; he returned to play for Southampton before his next move.
Newcastle signed him in August 2023. Premier League analysis of one Newcastle match showed how a winger moving inside could open a lane for his overlap. He has also played on either defensive flank. Those roles change the angle of his runs while preserving his ability to advance the ball from deep.
He made his senior England debut against the Republic of Ireland on 17 November 2024 in the UEFA Nations League. He started the 5–0 win, and a cross of his reached Anthony Gordon after Ireland failed to clear it.
In March 2025 he started on Newcastle's left in the League Cup final against Liverpool. His cross was headed down by Jacob Murphy before Alexander Isak scored in a 2–1 Newcastle win. He later started England's European Under-21 Championship final win over Germany. UEFA also selected him in its Team of the Tournament, highlighting his crossing and leadership.
In September 2025 he damaged knee ligaments against Arsenal and was out until late November. He was selected for England's 2026 World Cup squad but withdrew before the team's opening match. His milestones show a consistent mechanism: a defender turning a recovery or overlap into a dangerous ball from the flank.
Tino Livramento currently plays for Newcastle as a right-back. He has represented England internationally.
