Profile
Mohamed Salah is an Egyptian forward whose game connects wing play with a striker’s movement. At Liverpool, he could start wide to isolate the opposing full-back, then chase passes behind the defence. Short combinations offered another route inside, where his strength helped him hold off defenders and keep moving towards goal.
Born on 15 June 1992, Salah developed at El Mokawloon, also known as Arab Contractors, in Egypt. Basel took him to European football in 2012; Chelsea signed him in January 2014. His route to Liverpool then went through Italy, with a loan at Fiorentina followed by Roma, where he was named the club’s player of the season for 2015/16.
He joined Liverpool from Roma in June 2017 and scored 44 goals in all competitions in 2017/18, including 32 in the Premier League. Alongside Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mané, he formed the attack as Liverpool reached that season’s Champions League final.
An opening penalty against Tottenham helped Liverpool win the 2019 Champions League final. Premier League titles followed in 2019/20 and 2024/25. In the latter campaign, he led the league with 29 goals and 18 assists, earning the Golden Boot and Playmaker awards and showing the importance of his passing alongside his finishing.
With Egypt, he helped reach the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations final and qualify for the 2018 World Cup, the country’s first appearance at the tournament since 1990. He scored in both of his appearances in Russia.
At the 2026 World Cup, Salah scored and supplied the corner for another goal in Egypt’s 3-1 victory over New Zealand, their first win at a men’s World Cup. Egypt went on to reach the round of 16, where a 3-2 defeat by Argentina ended their run.
In August 2026, he joined Trabzonspor after his nine-year Liverpool career ended that summer. He left Anfield with 257 goals in 442 appearances in all competitions, placing him third on the club’s scoring list at the time of his departure.
Mohamed Salah currently plays for Trabzonspor as a right winger. He has represented Egypt internationally.
