Profile
Bukayo Saka is an English winger who can attack both sides of a full-back. Cutting infield brings his left foot into shooting positions, but he also uses his right to finish and deliver passes. Runs beyond the defence give him a threat before he receives the ball.
Born on 5 September 2001, Saka grew up playing football in Greenford, west London. He played for Greenford Celtic and spent time training with Watford before developing at Arsenal’s Hale End academy. Arsenal records his first formal registration there in May 2010.
At youth level, playing left-back against older boys was part of his education, even though he was primarily an attacker. He made his senior Arsenal debut against Vorskla Poltava on 29 November 2018, then scored his first senior goal away to Eintracht Frankfurt in September 2019.
That versatility carried into his first-team breakthrough: he played at left-back during 2019/20, the season Arsenal won the FA Cup. In 2020/21, Mikel Arteta moved him to the right wing. Premier League analysis highlighted how his right-footed goals and deliveries added another option alongside his favoured left.
His England debut came against Wales in October 2020. At EURO 2024, he combined defensive responsibility as a right wing-back with an attacking outlet against Switzerland. UEFA’s observers highlighted his runs behind and ability to beat his marker in tight spaces. He scored the equaliser and converted his penalty in England’s quarter-final shootout win.
In Arsenal’s 2025/26 Premier League title campaign, his contribution extended to set pieces. His left-footed corners worked with teammates’ coordinated movement in the box, including a delivery that Gabriel headed down for William Saliba to score against Chelsea.
He also scored the only goal against Atlético Madrid in the second leg of the 2026 Champions League semi-final, taking Arsenal through to the final. They lost to Paris Saint-Germain on penalties after a 1–1 draw in Budapest.
At the 2026 World Cup, Saka scored a hat-trick in England’s 6–4 win over France in the third-place match. Two first-half goals and a late penalty helped England finish the tournament with bronze.
Bukayo Saka currently plays for Arsenal as a right winger. He has represented England internationally.
