Bukayo Saka vs Lamine Yamal
They play the same position for England and Spain, so when the countries meet they don't mark each other; in competitive games they have met twice, in the EURO 2024 final and at Wembley, and Spain won both.

Why this comparison
Bukayo Saka and Lamine Yamal are left-footers who play on the right and often come inside: in our line-up data for the two years to 10 October 2026, 90% of Saka's minutes and 94% of Yamal's were on the right wing. When England play Spain that puts them on opposite wings, each facing the other team's left-back. Marc Cucurella was Saka's direct opponent in both meetings, while Yamal faced Luke Shaw in the EURO 2024 final and Nico O'Reilly at Wembley in 2026. Before the final Cucurella told The Athletic he normally watched all of Arsenal's games and aimed to make Saka feel uncomfortable.
Saka is almost six years older. He made his Arsenal debut in November 2018, when Yamal was 11, and ESPN wrote in 2025 that Yamal had grown up watching him and Mohamed Salah. On the eve of the EURO 2024 final, the day Yamal turned 17, the press split between them when picking combined England–Spain teams. In May 2025 Saka told Sky Sports he did not think he had seen that level from a 17-year-old, and days later Yamal named him, with Ousmane Dembélé, among the players outside Barcelona doing really well. Yamal was then runner-up for the 2025 Ballon d'Or and is on the 2026 list; Saka was nominated for neither.

Have they played each other?
By 10 October 2026 they had faced each other twice in competitive games, England against Spain both times, and both games are in the list below. Spain won both; Yamal set up a goal in the first and scored in the second, and Saka had neither. Both started both games. In the EURO 2024 final in Berlin on 14 July 2024 Yamal, aged 17 years and a day, became the youngest player to appear in a EURO or World Cup final, UEFA said. Two minutes into the second half he took Dani Carvajal's pass on the right, cut inside and found Nico Williams, who scored first time; later Jordan Pickford saved from Yamal to keep it 1–0. Saka played the whole game; with 17 minutes left he beat his man on the right and passed to Jude Bellingham, who laid the ball off for Cole Palmer's equaliser. Pickford saved from him again at 1–1, before Mikel Oyarzabal won it for Spain four minutes from the end. At Wembley on 26 September 2026, in the first round of their Nations League group, Marc Guéhi turned back towards his own goal, apparently unaware that Yamal was behind him, and Yamal took the ball off him and scored inside two minutes, the third-fastest goal England had ever conceded at Wembley according to Sky Sports. England led 2–1 at half-time, Harry Kane slipped and hit the bar with a penalty, and two Spain substitutes, Álex Baena and Oyarzabal again, turned it into a 3–2 win. Saka curled one shot wide and was replaced after 83 minutes. Their clubs have not met in a competitive game in Yamal's time at Barcelona: Arsenal and Barcelona have not been drawn together in the Champions League since his debut in 2023, and the only Arsenal–Barcelona game both have played in is a pre-season friendly in California in July 2023, which Arsenal won 5–3. Saka scored and missed a penalty, and Yamal, then 16, came on 11 minutes from time. As of 10 October 2026 England and Spain are next due to meet on 15 November in Madrid.

What the numbers don't show
The 2025/26 figures on the card take in the 2026 World Cup, and each of them began that tournament on the bench: Saka was managing an Achilles problem he had picked up with England in March, and Yamal was coming back from a hamstring injury. Saka started three of his seven games in North America and Yamal seven of his eight. Over the whole season Saka started 42 of his 59 games and Yamal 51 of 55, which is mostly how Yamal has more minutes from fewer games. Most of the games Yamal missed were Barcelona's: twelve, ten of them in LaLiga, four with a groin problem in the autumn and six at the end of the season; he also missed four of Spain's qualifiers. Penalties sit inside the goals row as well: the card's line without them takes three of Saka's 15 goals in 2025/26 and six of Yamal's 25.
On the pitch their habits differ more than the shared position suggests. In our match data for 2025/26 Yamal tried 9.3 take-ons per 90 minutes to Saka's 3.8 and took 2.9 shots per 90 to Saka's 2.0. Saka's game leans less on dribbling and more on work without the ball: he made more interceptions, 0.6 per 90 to Yamal's 0.4, and ESPN's FC 100 ranking of wide forwards in August 2026 credited him with the most chances created by any Premier League player used as a winger in 2025–26 and more ball recoveries in the attacking third than any other player in the league. They also came to the position by different routes. Saka played much of his first full Arsenal season at left-back and won his first England cap on the left in 2020, while Yamal has played on the right from his first season.

Questions fans ask
Who is better, Yamal or Saka?
For the numbers, go to the card at the top: it names a leader row by row, only where the gap is big enough to hold, for whichever window you pick. Published rankings have mostly put Yamal higher since 2024. In the Ballon d'Or he was eighth in 2024, when Saka was 21st; ESPN's FC 100 list of August 2026 had Yamal second among wide forwards and Saka seventh; and Planet Football's list of wingers on 29 September 2026 had them first and ninth. It was closer before the EURO 2024 final, when Football365, with Saka on the right, and the Stick to Football panel picked Saka for their combined England–Spain teams, and 90min and Goal chose Yamal. Age runs through the argument too: Saka turned 25 in September 2026, and Yamal turns 20 in July 2027.
Saka vs Yamal stats: who scored and created more in 2025–26?
Yamal scored more and set up more, counting club and country together in competitive games: 25 goals and 20 assists in 55 games, to Saka's 15 goals and 11 assists in 59. For Barcelona alone he had 24 goals and 17 assists in 45 games; Saka had 11 and seven in 49 for Arsenal, and in the Premier League he created 56 chances, the seventh-most in the league on its own count. Their countries reversed the order: Saka scored five times for England in 2025–26, four of them in competitive games, and set up four, three of each at the World Cup, while Yamal had one goal and three assists for Spain. The 2026/27 option on the card follows the new season and updates every night; up to 9 October 2026 Yamal had scored 12 times for Barcelona and Spain in 2026–27, Saka five times for Arsenal and England.
Have Saka and Yamal played against each other?
Twice in competitive games by 10 October 2026, both for their countries: the EURO 2024 final, which Spain won 2–1, and the Nations League game at Wembley on 26 September 2026, which Spain won 3–2. Yamal had a goal and an assist across the two and Saka neither; neither was booked. Saka played 173 minutes of those games and Yamal 179. They have never been team-mates, and the only Arsenal–Barcelona game since Yamal reached Barcelona's first team was a pre-season friendly in July 2023, when the two were on the pitch together for about five minutes.
When do Saka and Yamal play each other next?
Spain are due to host England at the Metropolitano in Madrid on 15 November 2026, at 20:45 local time, in the last round of their Nations League group. After four of the six rounds, played up to 6 October 2026, Spain had 12 points and England nine, Spain had made certain of the quarter-finals and England were nearly there, and the game in Madrid can decide which of them finishes first; group winners are seeded in the quarter-final draw and play the second leg at home. Arsenal and Barcelona do not play each other in the 2026–27 Champions League league phase, so a club meeting would have to come in the knockout rounds, which end with the final at the same stadium on 5 June 2027. The Nations League finals, pencilled in for June 2027, are another chance if both countries get that far.
Saka vs Yamal trophies: who has won more?
Yamal, and his two biggest came with Spain: the World Cup in 2026 and EURO 2024. With Barcelona he has won LaLiga in 2024–25 and 2025–26, plus the 2022–23 title, in which he played one game, the Copa del Rey once, in 2025, and two Spanish Super Cups, in 2025 and 2026. All of Saka's trophies have come with Arsenal: the Premier League in 2025–26, the FA Cup in 2020, whose final he watched from the bench, and the Community Shield in 2020, 2023 and 2026. He has also been on the losing side in four finals, those of EURO 2020 and EURO 2024, the 2026 Champions League and the 2026 League Cup, and won the third-place match at the 2026 World Cup. Yamal has lost two finals: the Spanish Super Cup of January 2024, which he joined from the bench, and the 2025 Nations League final, which Portugal won on penalties. For individual prizes, Yamal took the Kopa Trophy, the Ballon d'Or's award for young players, in 2024 and 2025 and was EURO 2024's young player of the tournament; Saka won England's men's player of the year award two seasons running, in 2021–22 and 2022–23, and was the PFA's young player for 2022–23. Saka has also scored more goals for England than any other Arsenal player: 19 in 59 caps by October 2026.
How old are Saka and Yamal, and how did they start?
Saka is five years and ten months older: his birthday is 5 September 2001, Yamal's 13 July 2007. Saka's first-team debut for Arsenal came at 17, as a substitute in a Europa League game in Kyiv in November 2018, wearing No 87, and when injuries opened a gap in 2019–20 he filled it at left-back. Yamal first played for Barcelona at 15 and for Spain at 16, in Tbilisi in September 2023, when he came on before half-time and scored, which made him the youngest scorer in EURO qualifying, according to UEFA. Neither has played senior football for another club: Saka signed a contract to 2030 in February 2026, and Yamal's runs to June 2031.
