Profile
Max Dowman is an attacking midfielder shaped by Arsenal's academy, with a game built around carrying the ball into pressure. He can work behind a striker or start from the right. Rather than releasing it as soon as a defender approaches, he keeps it close, changes his line and makes the defender choose between following him and leaving space for a pass.
That confidence developed against older opponents. Dowman played for Arsenal's under-18s at 13 and later scored in the UEFA Youth League while still younger than most of the competition. His 2024/25 under-18 campaign brought a sustained run of goals as well as chances created for teammates.
His first Premier League appearance came against Leeds United on 23 August 2025. Introduced from the bench, he attacked the box with the ball and drew a foul that gave Arsenal a penalty. It was an early example of why his dribbling matters: a defender forced to stop the run can concede a dangerous set piece even when the run does not produce a shot.
By November 2025, Dowman had also played in the Champions League. He replaced Leandro Trossard late in Arsenal's win at Slavia Praha on 4 November, becoming the first 15-year-old to appear in the competition. He had previously been on the bench for European matches without coming on.
Against Everton on 14 March 2026, he showed two different outcomes from that direct approach. A deep cross reached Piero Hincapié, whose return ball set up Viktor Gyökeres for Arsenal's opener. Later, Dowman collected the ball with Everton's goalkeeper stranded upfield, beat two opponents and ran on to score. It made him the youngest goalscorer in Premier League history.
Arsenal won the 2025/26 Premier League title, and Dowman received a champions' medal after making the required league appearances. On the final day against Crystal Palace he became the competition's youngest starter. The league also named him joint Home Grown Debutant of the Season with Rio Ngumoha. His first senior season thus included both brief cameos and decisive moments.
Max Dowman currently plays for Arsenal as an attacking midfielder.
