Profile
Luka Vušković is a Croatian centre-back whose aerial strength gives him a role at both ends of the pitch. In Hamburg’s back three, winning contested headers was central to his defending. He also helped organise the back line, a quality highlighted in the Bundesliga’s February 2026 assessment.
The attacking value of his height is easiest to see at corners, where he can rise above defenders to meet a delivery. Against St. Pauli in January 2026, that movement produced a header which forced Nikola Vasilj into a save. His finishing has another side, too: a backheel against Werder Bremen won the Bundesliga’s Goal of the Year award for 2025.
Vušković came through Hajduk Split’s academy and made his professional debut in February 2023. His goal against Osijek the following month made him the club’s youngest scorer. That season brought a Croatian Cup win with the senior team and involvement in the under-19 side’s run to the UEFA Youth League final, where Hajduk finished runners-up.
Tottenham agreed his transfer in September 2023, with the move scheduled for 2025. Before joining up with Spurs in July 2025, he developed further in Belgium with Westerlo, scoring seven league goals in 2024/25. The scoring continued during his subsequent Hamburg loan, which gave him a season in the German top flight.
His Hamburg debut was a difficult introduction, a 5–0 defeat by Bayern Munich. When the teams met again in January 2026, Vušković scored the equaliser in a 2–2 draw. Those contrasting meetings provide a useful picture of his breakthrough season: demanding defensive assignments accompanied by an ability to affect the other penalty area.
He started against England on his World Cup debut in June 2026, in Croatia’s 4–2 defeat. Croatia’s tournament ended with a loss to Portugal in the round of 32. In July 2026, Tottenham announced his transfer to Brighton & Hove Albion, the next step after his Hamburg loan.
