Profile
João Pedro is a Brazilian forward who can connect an attack as well as finish it. Comfortable leading the line or receiving the ball deeper, he offers a passing link between midfield and the penalty area, while his movement and leap also make him a threat at corners.
Born in Ribeirão Preto on 26 September 2001, he moved to Rio de Janeiro to join Fluminense’s academy. He played in midfield and out wide before becoming a striker with the under-17s. He has credited that varied education with helping him understand the game and feel comfortable coming deep for the ball.
His senior breakthrough at Fluminense came in 2019, followed by a move to Watford at the beginning of 2020. Nine Championship goals helped Watford win promotion in 2020/21. After experiencing both English divisions with the club, he joined Brighton in 2023.
Brighton’s first European campaign gave him another stage. In September 2023 he scored both of their goals, from penalties, in a 3–2 Europa League defeat by AEK Athens. He finished that European campaign with six goals in six appearances. His senior Brazil debut came against Colombia in November 2023.
He joined Chelsea in July 2025 and immediately helped them win the Club World Cup, scoring twice against his former club Fluminense in the semi-final and again against Paris Saint-Germain in the final. Chelsea supporters subsequently voted him their men’s Player of the Season for 2025/26. In May 2026 Carlo Ancelotti left him out of Brazil’s squad for the 2026 World Cup.
The different parts of his game were visible in August 2025. Against West Ham, he played behind Liam Delap, received the ball deeper and linked attacks, contributing a goal and two assists. His headed goal against Fulham showed another skill: finding space among defenders at a corner and guiding the ball into the net. Those examples help explain how he can contribute both outside the box and inside it.
João Pedro currently plays for Chelsea as a forward. He has represented Brazil internationally.
