Profile
Jérémy Doku is a Belgian winger whose most distinctive weapon is the first few strides of a dribble. He combines short bursts of acceleration with the strength to withstand a defender's challenge, turning close marking into an opportunity to escape towards the penalty area. He can threaten either side of his opponent.
The next decision matters as much as beating the first man. When extra defenders gather around him, Doku can use their attention to find an unmarked teammate. Premier League analysis in October 2025 highlighted his improving recognition of those moments, including a run against Burnley that ended with an inside pass for Erling Haaland to score.
Born in Antwerp, he joined Anderlecht's Neerpede academy in 2012 and reached the first team in 2018. His breakthrough came at sixteen, with speed and technique already central to his game. The club's account of his departure identified him as the first player from its strong 2002 age group to establish himself at senior level.
A move to Rennes followed in October 2020, giving him experience in Ligue 1 and the Champions League. He joined Manchester City in August 2023. Having often played on the right earlier in his career, he was used on the left by Pep Guardiola, where cutting in opened a different route to goal.
His first City season showed how that directness could produce chances for others. In the 6–1 league win over Bournemouth in November 2023, he scored once and supplied four assists. He also helped City win the 2023/24 Premier League title, contributing an assist for Phil Foden in the decisive final-day victory over West Ham.
Further team honours followed with the League Cup and FA Cup in 2026. In the FA Cup semi-final against Southampton, he scored the equaliser and set up Nico González's winner. He then started the final as City beat Chelsea 1–0, turning his contribution to the run into a Wembley success.
Doku's senior Belgium breakthrough had arrived in September 2020, when he scored on his first start. His international career later included a World Cup quarter-final appearance in 2026. He played against Spain in Belgium's 2–1 defeat, combining with Kevin De Bruyne to help create a second-half chance before the late goal that ended their tournament.
Jérémy Doku currently plays for Manchester City as a left winger. He has represented Belgium internationally.
