Profile
Pascal Groß makes space with deception and uses it to deliver the next pass. His familiar Cruyff turn begins as if he is about to cross or shoot, before he pulls the ball behind his standing leg. The change of direction buys room to cross, making a small movement an important part of his creative game.
His passing works at different distances. He can help move possession from deep midfield towards the flanks or attacking midfielders, while his crossing and set-piece delivery offer a more direct route to chances. Brighton's analysis of his game also highlighted switches of play and receiving passes that move the ball towards goal: he helps attacks continue as well as supplying their final ball.
Born in Mannheim, Groß began playing at VfL Neckarau, where his father Stephan coached him, before joining Hoffenheim's youth setup. His father insisted on practice with both feet. After Hoffenheim and Karlsruher SC, he moved to Ingolstadt in 2012 and helped the club win the second-division title in 2014/15, earning promotion to the Bundesliga.
He joined Brighton in 2017 ahead of their first Premier League season. Groß scored the club's first goal in the competition against West Bromwich Albion and later headed the winner against Manchester United that secured survival in 2017/18. Those moments made his influence tangible: a midfielder associated with creating chances could also finish moves at decisive times.
Germany recognition arrived in September 2023, when he made his senior debut against Japan. He played at Euro 2024 and made his World Cup debut as a substitute against Ecuador in June 2026. In a September 2026 interview with Sky Sport, he confirmed that he had retired from international football after that World Cup.
Groß joined Borussia Dortmund, the club he had supported as a child, in August 2024. He returned to Brighton in January 2026, beginning a second spell with the English club. In October 2026 he received his first Premier League Player of the Month award, for September, adding an individual honour to a career built around passing, delivery and adaptability.
Pascal Groß currently plays for Brighton as a midfielder. He has represented Germany internationally.
