Profile
Morgan Rogers is an English attacking midfielder whose game combines forceful dribbling with passes that open up a defence. He can hold off challenges as he drives forward, yet his threat also comes from finding space to receive the ball and releasing it into the penalty area.
Born in Halesowen on 26 July 2002, he came through West Bromwich Albion’s academy and made his professional debut in an FA Cup tie against Brighton. He moved to Manchester City in August 2019, continuing his development before a series of loans.
Those spells took him to Lincoln City, Bournemouth and Blackpool. At Lincoln he played in the 2021 League One play-off final; at Bournemouth he was part of the squad promoted from the Championship in 2022. He joined Middlesbrough in July 2023 and Aston Villa in 2024.
Under Unai Emery at Villa, he worked between the opposition’s midfield and defence, with a winger moving infield to help form a box of four midfielders. Receiving with his body partly turned helped him face the defence quickly. From there, he could carry the ball forward or thread a pass into the penalty area.
He made his senior England debut in November 2024 after progressing through the national youth teams. His first full Villa season, 2024/25, included a Champions League hat-trick against Celtic and brought the PFA Young Player of the Year award.
In May 2026 he scored Villa’s third goal in their 3–0 Europa League final win over Freiburg in Istanbul. UEFA also named him the competition’s Player of the Season: across that completed campaign he contributed three goals and five assists in 15 appearances.
At the 2026 World Cup he played seven times as England finished third, including three starts. His cross from the right set up Anthony Gordon in the semi-final against Argentina. After the tournament, he joined Chelsea from Aston Villa in July 2026.
Morgan Rogers currently plays for Chelsea as an attacking midfielder. He has represented England internationally.
