Profile
Enzo Le Fée is a right-footed French midfielder who has worked centrally and from the left. Both positions let him find a passing angle near the attack and give a team-mate a useful next touch. His Sunderland performances showed him connecting play from wide areas as well as behind the forwards.
Born in Lorient, he played locally for La Vigilante de Keryado before joining FC Lorient at eight. He progressed through its academy to the senior side and experienced Ligue 1 in August 2020. France also used him at youth level: he played three matches at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 and three at the 2023 European Under-21 Championship, including the quarter-final defeat to Ukraine.
A move to Rennes in July 2023 took him from his hometown club into another Ligue 1 midfield and European competition. After one season he joined Roma in July 2024. His Italian spell was brief: in January 2025 he moved on loan to Sunderland, where Régis Le Bris, his former Lorient coach, managed a promotion campaign.
Le Fée played much of that Championship run from the left, although central midfield was his preferred area. Starting wider offered a route into the inside channel, where a pass or delivery could connect flank and centre. He assisted in both legs of Sunderland's play-off semi-final against Coventry City. Sunderland then beat Sheffield United in the final to earn promotion, and his loan from Roma became a permanent transfer in June 2025.
That blend of creation and movement between spaces carried into his Premier League football. The key distinction is the passing angle: from the left he can receive facing infield; in an advanced central position he can offer a pass between midfield and striker. Set pieces add another delivery route. Those are different uses of one technical skill rather than a fixed position.
In May 2026 at Everton, Le Fée supplied Brian Brobbey for Sunderland's equaliser and then scored himself in a 3–1 comeback victory. The Premier League subsequently named him its fan-voted Player of Matchweek 37. By the 2026 pre-season, league analysis again described him in an advanced central midfield role, extending the path from Lorient academy player to Premier League creator.
Enzo Le Fée currently plays for Sunderland as a central midfielder.
