Profile
Fermín López is a Spanish attacking midfielder whose movement creates shooting chances. He exchanges passes in crowded areas, makes runs beyond the defence and delays his arrival to meet low crosses. His game also includes energetic pressure on opponents when they have possession.
Born in El Campillo, Huelva, on 11 May 2003, he played youth football for his hometown club, Recreativo de Huelva and Real Betis before joining Barcelona’s academy in summer 2016. His route to the first team included a 2022/23 loan at Linares, where he scored 12 league goals in Spain’s third tier.
Back with Barcelona, a goal and an assist against Real Madrid on the 2023 US preseason tour offered an early glimpse of his attacking range. The 2023/24 campaign brought his competitive debut against Villarreal and 11 goals across all club competitions.
His goal against Napoli in March 2024 showed why the timing matters. Rather than rushing towards goal, he briefly held his run before meeting Raphinha’s low cross. That pause allowed him to arrive in space, while his exchanges with Lamine Yamal and İlkay Gündoğan showed he could help build the attack too.
His international breakthrough brought two different honours in summer 2024: a place in Spain’s European Championship winning squad and Olympic gold. In Paris he scored six goals, including two in the final against France, which Spain won 5–3 after extra time.
His first trophies with Barcelona’s senior team followed in 2024/25, when the side won La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup. He scored the late second goal in the 2–0 victory at Espanyol that secured the league title, finishing a pass from Lamine Yamal.
He added a Champions League hat-trick against Olympiacos in October 2025, scoring all three with his left foot in a 6–1 win. His second goal came after receiving inside the area and cutting past a defender. He finished 2025/26 with 13 goals across Barcelona’s competitions and another league title.
Fermín currently plays for Barcelona as an attacking midfielder. He has represented Spain internationally.
