Profile
Georges Mikautadze is a Georgia international forward born in Lyon whose game is built around movement before the ball arrives. He has described using a short lay-off and then running into space instead of wrestling a stronger defender for possession. That sequence can turn a crowded touch near the box into a chance to receive facing goal. When positioned behind another striker, he has more room to see teammates on either side and supply them.
His route to senior football was less direct than that fluency suggests. After youth years at Lyon, he moved to Saint-Priest and then joined Metz's academy in 2017. Two loan spells at Belgian side Seraing gave him regular senior matches. Mikautadze later said the faster game there taught him to scan and decide sooner, a useful complement to the close control and finishing he already trusted.
At Metz, he became Ligue 2's leading scorer in 2022/23 with 23 goals. Ajax signed him in 2023, but he returned to Metz on loan the following January. Metz then made the move permanent in July 2024.
Georgia's first European Championship finals in 2024 gave him a different stage. Mikautadze scored three group-stage goals and, against Portugal, won the ball and passed through for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's early goal before scoring a penalty himself. Georgia reached the round of 16, where Spain ended their run. His three goals left him sharing the tournament's top-scorer honour with five other players.
He returned to Lyon's senior side in July 2024, years after leaving its youth set-up, and Villarreal signed him from Lyon in September 2025. Villarreal identified both centre-forward and left-wing roles for him. His own account of those positions explains the difference: central play demands quick combinations under pressure, while a withdrawn role gives him more time to pick a pass.
In February 2026, LaLiga named him its Player of the Month. A May match against Levante showed two routes to goal in one afternoon: he seized on a defensive mistake for his first finish, then completed a move involving teammates for his second. Villarreal won 5–1 and secured Champions League qualification. Those moments fit the broader picture of a forward who can both arrive for the final touch and help create the opening before it.
Georges Mikautadze currently plays for Villarreal as a striker. He has represented Georgia internationally.
