Profile
Edu Expósito is a midfielder who can slow a move down and then change its direction with one pass. In Espanyol's October 2025 win at Oviedo, he took control in midfield before a precise ball released Carlos Romero in the move for Kike García's goal. He was involved before the final assist.
His route to senior football was gradual. After youth football with Damm and earlier local clubs around Cubelles, he developed at Deportivo La Coruña. By the 2016/17 season he had made a top-flight appearance for Deportivo; a fuller Segunda División campaign followed in 2018/19. He moved to Eibar in 2019.
At Eibar he had to add work without the ball to his passing. At his Espanyol presentation in August 2022, Expósito credited former coach José Luis Mendilibar with teaching him to defend, press and run with purpose. Across his three seasons at Eibar, his strongest scoring campaign came in the second tier, after the club's drop from LaLiga.
Espanyol signed him from Eibar in August 2022. Five days after the announcement, he scored on his club debut at Celta Vigo, shooting from the edge of the box as Espanyol recovered from two goals down to draw. It was an eye-catching start, but the longer-lasting feature of his role has been his ability to connect midfield possession to attackers and wide runners.
A knee ligament injury against Eldense in January 2024 interrupted that development. He had surgery later that month; he returned in the league match at Las Palmas on 22 December 2024, coming on as a substitute. Coach Manolo González then singled out the pause and judgment he could give the team's play.
Two later games show the range of that contribution. In the May 2025 derby against Barcelona, his free kick gave Javi Puado a headed chance. At Osasuna in September 2026, a pass from Expósito sent Omar El Hilali into space to cross in the sequence of Roberto Fernández's goal. The passes illustrate how he can advance an attack before its decisive final ball.
Edu Expósito currently plays for Espanyol as a midfielder.
