Profile
Eduardo Camavinga is a French midfielder who uses bursts of pace to carry the ball through opposing lines. Left-footed and willing to tackle, he can help a team regain possession and then move it forward himself. His passing gives him another way to turn a deep position into an attack.
Born in Cabinda, Angola, on 10 November 2002, he developed in French football at Fougères before entering Rennes’ academy in 2013. His Ligue 1 debut came at Angers on 6 April 2019. Four months later, he stood out in Rennes’ 2-1 home win over Paris Saint-Germain.
He joined Real Madrid in August 2021 and scored on his competitive debut against Celta Vigo the following month, finishing a rebound after Luka Modrić’s shot. His first season ended with both the Spanish league title and the Champions League among his honours.
His contribution to the 2022 European run is clearest in the semi-final comeback against Manchester City. Coming off the bench, he played the angled pass that allowed Karim Benzema to set up Rodrygo’s first goal. In extra time, he carried a pass from Thibaut Courtois deep into City territory during the move that led to Madrid’s winning penalty.
Camavinga started the 2024 Champions League final as Madrid beat Borussia Dortmund 2-0 at Wembley. His versatility also brought spells at full-back. In February 2023 he explained that he had played there to help the team, while saying his preference was to operate in midfield.
He made his senior France debut against Croatia in September 2020 and scored against Ukraine on his first start the next month. In the 2022 World Cup final he replaced Théo Hernández during the second half; France recovered to draw 3-3 with Argentina before losing the penalty shootout. He was not included in France’s 26-player squad for the 2026 World Cup.
Eduardo Camavinga currently plays for Real Madrid as a central midfielder. He has represented France internationally.
