Profile
Arda Güler is a Turkish attacking midfielder whose close control and disguised passing help him work between an opponent’s midfield and defence. Small touches let him change direction without showing when he will release the ball, making him difficult to close down.
Born in Ankara on 25 February 2005, he developed at Gençlerbirliği before entering Fenerbahçe’s youth system in 2019. His first-team debut followed in August 2021, in a Europa League qualifier, beginning his move from academy prospect to senior playmaker.
The 2023 Turkish Cup final provided an early demonstration of his creativity. Güler set up the opening goal in Fenerbahçe’s 2–0 victory over İstanbul Başakşehir and was named the final’s man of the match.
He joined Real Madrid in July 2023 and made his debut against Arandina in the Copa del Rey on 6 January 2024. His first Madrid goal came against Celta that March, when he moved around the goalkeeper before finishing a 4–0 win.
International football brought another breakthrough at EURO 2024. His long-range goal against Georgia helped Türkiye win 3–1 and made him the youngest player to score on his EURO finals debut. Türkiye reached the quarter-finals, where his cross created Samet Akaydin’s opener before the Netherlands recovered to win 2–1.
At the 2026 World Cup, Güler scored in Türkiye’s 3–2 win over the United States on 25 June. Türkiye ended their tournament with that group-stage win, having failed to reach the knockout rounds.
His passing can be as deceptive as his dribbling. In a November 2025 analysis of Madrid against Juventus, UEFA highlighted how he looked one way and shaped to pass there, shifting a midfielder before finding Jude Bellingham elsewhere. Moving into gaps, receiving under pressure and concealing the next action allow him to connect possession with chances.
Arda Güler currently plays for Real Madrid as an attacking midfielder. He has represented Türkiye internationally.
