Profile
Álvaro Vallés is a Spanish goalkeeper whose work spans two phases of play: stopping shots and helping his side keep the ball after winning it. His reflexes at close range and his use of his feet are more useful descriptions than a clean-sheet total alone. Clean sheets also depend on how often opponents reach the goal.
Born in La Rinconada near Seville, Vallés entered the Real Betis academy in summer 2014. He progressed from the youth side to Betis Deportivo and spent 2017/18 on loan at CD Gerena. Las Palmas then signed him for their reserve team in 2018, continuing his route toward senior football.
At Las Palmas Atlético he initially shared the goalkeeping pathway with Josep Martínez. Vallés made his professional league debut for the senior side against Deportivo de La Coruña on 13 October 2019, when Martínez was away with Spain's under-21 team. It began a longer route to regular responsibility.
The 2022/23 season gave that responsibility a collective reward: Las Palmas won promotion to Spain's top division. Vallés played in the decisive goalless draw with Alavés. The club's account describes him blocking an Alavés chance with his foot from close range, an example of how footwork can preserve a result. He also set a club record for a run without conceding that season.
Las Palmas then relied on him through their 2023/24 top-flight campaign. Their own account highlighted both his shot stopping and the proportion of passes he completed. The pairing matters in a possession side: a save stops the immediate danger, while an accurate pass can help turn the next phase into a controlled attack.
Betis announced his return on 17 June 2025, completing a loop from its academy through Gerena and Las Palmas. At his presentation, the club's sporting director singled out agility, speed, aerial play and distribution. In September 2026, Vallés stopped a close-range Santi Comesaña attempt against Villarreal; LaLiga later chose that intervention as its Save of the Month. The individual award gives a vivid example of his reactions in a crowded goalmouth.
Álvaro Vallés currently plays for Real Betis as a goalkeeper.
