Profile
Luka Sučić is a Croatian midfielder whose left foot can change an attack in two ways. He can find a runner beyond the opposing midfield or drive forward and shoot himself. That mix makes him more than a passer in the middle: defenders must also account for the space he can use outside the penalty area.
Born in Linz, Austria, Sučić came through Salzburg's youth system and reached the first team as a teenager. His Austrian Bundesliga debut came in September 2020. Senior football gave him a platform to develop as a midfielder who could both supply attacks and finish them, rather than being confined to one narrow position.
One snapshot of that range came during Salzburg's 2021–22 title run. Sučić scored in the 5–0 win over Austria Wien in April 2022 that sealed the league championship. Later that year, an outside-of-the-foot pass split Wolfsberger's defence to set up Noah Okafor. The first showed him finishing a move; the second, how quickly he could release a teammate into one.
Real Sociedad signed him from Salzburg in August 2024, bringing his game into Spain. In a February 2025 Europa League knockout win against Midtjylland, he scored twice before half-time: first by finishing a team move, then by reacting to a corner rebound. Sociedad advanced to the last 16, while Sučić had shown two routes to goal in one match.
Croatia selected him for EURO 2024, and he played in the group games against Albania and Italy. He came on at half-time against Albania and forced a save; against Italy, a long-range shot brought another early save. He later entered Croatia's 2026 World Cup group win over Panama as a substitute.
A further club milestone came in April 2026, when Sociedad beat Atlético de Madrid on penalties in the Copa del Rey final. Sučić started and converted his shootout kick.
His appeal lies in the choice he gives an attack. A left-footed pass can break a line, as it did for Okafor; he can also drive forward and shoot, as in Sociedad's September 2026 winner at Elche. Those actions show different ways of moving a team towards goal.
Luka Sučić currently plays for Real Sociedad as a central midfielder. He has represented Croatia internationally.
