Profile
Ante Budimir is a Croatian centre-forward whose game gives wide players a clear target. Left-footed and strong in the air, he turns crosses into scoring chances by finding a finishing position inside the box. His value lies in connecting the work on the flanks with the final touch, whether a header or a close-range finish.
His route to that role passed through several football cultures. He began at Radnik Velika Gorica, played in Croatia and moved to Germany with St. Pauli before spells in Italy with Crotone and Sampdoria. Crotone's promotion to Serie A was an important breakthrough: his goals helped take the club into the Italian top division.
In January 2019 he joined Mallorca on loan, opening the Spanish chapter of his career. Mallorca subsequently bought him, and another loan took him to Osasuna in 2020. After that first season in Pamplona, Osasuna exercised its purchase option in 2021. The sequence of loans followed by permanent moves gave his career a lasting Spanish base.
On 2 March 2025, a penalty in a 3–3 draw with Valencia made him Osasuna's record scorer in Spain's top flight. His contribution also had a recognisable pattern in open play. Against Atlético Madrid that May, a midfield recovery released Kike Barja down the flank, and Budimir headed in the cross to complete a 2–0 win: a short route from regaining possession to finding the striker.
That ability to finish wide service carried into international football. On 21 November 2023, he headed Borna Sosa's cross into Armenia's net for the only goal at Maksimir. Croatia's win secured qualification for Euro 2024.
At the 2026 World Cup, Budimir came on at half-time against Panama and scored the winner in a 1–0 group-stage victory. The move again came from wide: Josip Stanišić supplied the ball from the right and Budimir finished at the far post. He later started Croatia's round-of-32 match against Portugal, which ended in a 2–1 defeat and elimination.
Ante Budimir currently plays for Osasuna as a striker. He has represented Croatia internationally.
