Konrad Laimer's game is built around arriving at the next contest early. He learned his trade in midfield, where closing down an opponent can turn a loose touch into an attack. At Bayern, he has carried that habit into full-back roles: he steps forward to press, then helps restore pressure after possession is lost. The position changes, but his timing remains essential.
Born in Salzburg, Laimer developed in Red Bull Salzburg's academy and made his senior debut in September 2014. He was part of a side that won three Austrian league titles and three domestic cups before moving to RB Leipzig in summer 2017. Leipzig brought him two DFB Cup wins, in 2022 and 2023, and sustained central-midfield experience in Germany's Bundesliga.
Bayern announced his arrival from Leipzig in June 2023. Early in Munich he was often used centrally, but under Vincent Kompany his tasks shifted towards the defensive flanks. He can play on either side. Bayern describes a full-back who pushes out to challenge, moves inside when a gap opens, and runs beyond the ball. His job is to judge which space needs him next.
That movement changes what he offers in possession. On the right, Michael Olise can draw a defender towards the ball while Laimer runs into the space left behind. If the move breaks down, Laimer helps restore pressure. This blend of cover and forward running explains why describing him only as a ball-winner misses part of his role.
Bayern won the Bundesliga in 2025 and again in 2026. Their 2026 DFB Cup final brought a 3-0 victory over Stuttgart and completed a domestic double; Laimer started in the back line. His Leipzig cup wins and Bayern double mark different career stages, rather than individual awards.
Austria has used Laimer farther forward too. He played at EURO 2024 as Austria won its group before losing to Türkiye in the round of 16. At the 2026 World Cup, Austria returned for the first time since 1998; Laimer played in its final match, a 3-0 defeat to Spain in July.
