Profile
Yuito Suzuki links attacking midfield and finishing: he can turn towards goal with the ball or release a runner and follow into the gap. Freiburg's deeper support role has shown how those actions belong together. He can connect an attack without surrendering the chance to finish it himself.
His route began at Shimizu S-Pulse, where he signed his first professional deal as a teenager and made his J1 League debut in July 2020. A January 2023 loan to Strasbourg brought only limited playing time. The next move, to Brøndby that summer, gave him a larger creative role and a platform to combine goals with chances for teammates.
In Denmark he played centrally and wide. Bundesliga's 2025 portrait described a left-footed player who changes direction past a marker, then chooses a pass or finish. He is neither a pure winger nor a player who waits near the area: his first action can change where defenders have to look.
Freiburg announced his signing from Brøndby in May 2025, ahead of his July move to Germany. The club identified both his own goal threat and his ability to set up others. In Freiburg's attack, that blend has often meant working behind a centre-forward rather than staying fixed on a touchline.
A goal against Celta Vigo in April 2026 provides a clear example. UEFA's technical observers traced how Freiburg won the ball high, Suzuki passed to Jan-Niklas Beste, then ran into the space vacated when a centre-back followed Beste. He met the cutback with a first-time finish. The sequence was a team movement, but his pass and immediate follow-up run made him both link and endpoint.
Suzuki contributed to Freiburg's run to the 2026 Europa League final, including that quarter-final goal. A collarbone fracture in early May kept him out of the final, which Aston Villa won.
For Japan, Suzuki made his senior debut in June 2024 and came on against Tunisia at the 2026 World Cup; Japan later exited in the round of 32. Back in club football, his opening-day hat-trick against Werder Bremen in August 2026 came from three close-range finishes. It underlined a second route to goal: arriving for a teammate's delivery, rather than starting every move with the ball at his feet.
Yuito Suzuki currently plays for SC Freiburg as an attacking midfielder. He has represented Japan internationally.
