Profile
Franck Honorat's attacking game starts with movement rather than a trick on the ball. The French winger has described trying to run into space behind a defence, using his speed to stretch the pitch and then delivering crosses or passes for others to finish. That gives a striker a target in the box while forcing a full-back to choose between following the run and holding position.
His route to that role was gradual. Born in Toulon, Honorat spent formative years at Nice and had spells with Sochaux, Clermont and Saint-Étienne before joining Brest. The French federation also records appearances for France from under-16 to under-19 level. Those are youth international matches, rather than evidence of a senior France career.
At Brest, his attacking contribution was not confined to runs in open play. In January 2023, a 4-0 win over Angers showed both sides: he supplied teammates and scored himself. One of the final passes came from a corner. The match illustrates why preventing his crosses during open play did not remove the threat of his deliveries from a dead ball.
Honorat moved from Brest to Borussia Mönchengladbach in July 2023. In his first club interview after the switch, he spoke of wanting to play in the Bundesliga and of bringing pace and crossing to the side. The move gave him a new stage for the right-sided role he had developed in France. His interview describes an intention; later match events offer a clearer test of how that approach worked.
A December 2024 league game against Holstein Kiel shows the variety more concretely. Honorat crossed from the right for Tim Kleindienst's first-minute header, then supplied the corner that Alassane Pléa headed in before half-time. The two deliveries came from different situations, but both asked a teammate to attack a specific area at the right moment. They helped Gladbach win 4-1.
He can also finish a move himself. Against St. Pauli in March 2026, Honorat came off the bench and scored with his left foot after Joe Scally pulled the ball back from near the byline. That goal does not change the main shape of his game: he is most revealing when a run pulls defenders toward the right and a well-timed delivery gives somebody else the final touch.
Franck Honorat currently plays for Borussia Mönchengladbach as a right winger.
