Profile
Karim Adeyemi is a German forward who combines a strong left foot with explosive running. He can operate on either wing or through the middle, using rapid ball carries and runs behind a defence to turn open space into chances.
Born in Munich, he developed at TSV Forstenried, Bayern Munich and Unterhaching before moving to Red Bull Salzburg in 2018. He spent time with development side Liefering before establishing himself in Salzburg’s first team. In 2021/22 he helped Salzburg win the Austrian league and finished as the league’s joint top scorer with 19 goals.
Dortmund brought him back to Germany in summer 2022, and he won the Bundesliga’s Rookie of the Season award in 2022/23. His Champions League winner against Chelsea that February showed his main weapon: collecting a clearance inside his own half, accelerating past Enzo Fernández and rounding Kepa Arrizabalaga.
His movement can help construct attacks as well as finish them. UEFA’s analysis of that Chelsea match highlighted him dropping from the wing into central midfield, giving Dortmund an extra passing option. He then switched play to the right, helping the team find space beyond Chelsea’s crowded centre.
His work without the ball also mattered in Dortmund’s run to the 2024 Champions League final. In the semi-final away to Paris Saint-Germain, he dropped alongside the defence and helped Ian Maatsen contain Achraf Hakimi and Ousmane Dembélé. Dortmund beat Paris, then lost the final to Real Madrid.
Adeyemi won the European Under-21 Championship with Germany in 2021, appearing from the bench in the final against Portugal. That September he scored on his senior debut against Armenia under Hansi Flick. He was selected for the 2022 World Cup but did not play, and missed the final squad for the 2026 tournament.
Barcelona signed him from Dortmund in July 2026. The transfer reunited Adeyemi with Flick, the coach who had introduced him to senior international football, after four seasons in Dortmund.
Karim Adeyemi currently plays for Barcelona as a forward. He has represented Germany internationally.
