Profile
Angelo Stiller is a German central midfielder whose passing connects a team's patient build-up with its next attack. Working mainly with his left foot, he can keep the ball moving over short distances, switch it diagonally across the pitch or send a forward through a gap in the defence.
His Stuttgart partnership with Atakan Karazor illustrates how that role works. In the Bundesliga's February 2025 tactical analysis, Karazor provided cover when Stiller moved towards the attacking third. That division gave Stiller room to join attacks while retaining a midfielder behind the ball. His contribution involved both circulating possession and choosing when to play forward.
Born in Munich, Stiller entered Bayern Munich's academy in 2010. Sebastian Hoeneß promoted him to the under-19 side while he was still eligible for the under-17s. He then gained senior experience with Bayern's reserves, playing in their 2019/20 third-division title campaign before appearing for the first team in domestic and European cup competition.
He moved to Hoffenheim in summer 2021 and made his Bundesliga debut that August. A move to Stuttgart in August 2023 reunited him with Hoeneß, who had also coached him at Hoffenheim. His first Stuttgart season ended with the club finishing second in the Bundesliga in 2023/24.
The 2025 German Cup final offered a particularly clear example of his creative passing. Stiller set up Nick Woltemade and Deniz Undav in Stuttgart's 4–2 win over Arminia Bielefeld, providing the passes for the first and third goals. He also started the following year's final, when Stuttgart lost 3–0 to Bayern in May 2026.
His senior Germany debut came on 7 September 2024, as a substitute in a 5–0 Nations League victory over Hungary. He entered in place of Robert Andrich and played in defensive midfield alongside Aleksandar Pavlović, bringing his club role into the international side.
Stiller made his World Cup debut on 25 June 2026, replacing Pavlović at half-time against Ecuador. He played the second half of Germany's 2–1 defeat. Germany subsequently went out to Paraguay on penalties in the round of 32; Stiller remained an unused substitute in that knockout match.
Angelo Stiller currently plays for VfB Stuttgart as a central midfielder. He has represented Germany internationally.
