Profile
Bilal El Khannouss is a Moroccan attacking midfielder who connects close control with the final pass or shot. His creativity can come from a simple exchange: pass to a teammate, move to receive the return, then deliver into the box. He can also beat a defender himself before attempting a finish.
His football education began in Belgium, where he was born and developed at Anderlecht before moving to Genk in 2019. He made his senior debut in 2022. That route took him from youth football into the Belgian first team before his move to Leicester City was announced in August 2024.
A Leicester highlight came at Tottenham in January 2025. With the match level, he curled a shot from outside the penalty area into the bottom corner to secure a 2–1 win. It showed another route to goal for a creative midfielder: finishing from the edge of the box when the opportunity opens.
His work against Southampton later that season illustrated the passing side of his game. He exchanged passes with Luke Thomas on the left before crossing for Jamie Vardy to score. Later, he pushed the ball through Taylor Harwood-Bellis’s legs before shooting over. Those actions show how combination play and individual control can each create an opening.
He spent the 2025/26 season on loan at Stuttgart, who announced the permanent transfer in May 2026. In a December 2025 club interview, he explained that their emphasis on possession and creating chances together suited him. He also stressed that skill needed a purpose, with goals, assists and team results providing the measure of its value.
His international pathway included Belgium’s youth teams before selection in Morocco’s squad for the 2022 World Cup. At the Paris Olympics in August 2024, he scored in Morocco’s 6–0 victory over Egypt in the bronze-medal match, contributing directly to the country’s first Olympic football medal.
He also played at the 2026 World Cup, starting Morocco’s opening draw against Brazil. Morocco went on to reach the quarter-finals, where France ended their run. The tournament added another senior international chapter to a career already shaped by football in Belgium, England and Germany.
Bilal El Khannouss currently plays for VfB Stuttgart as an attacking midfielder. He has represented Morocco internationally.
