Profile
Finn Jeltsch is a German centre-back whose game includes a midfielder’s appetite for moving forward. He played as a number eight in youth football and has described how that experience stayed with him. From defence, he likes seeing play unfold ahead of him and advancing when space opens, helping his team build attacks from deeper positions.
That ambition sits alongside work on the basics of defending. In February 2026, Jeltsch explained that he had been practising his heading and was pleased to win the aerial duel that helped start Stuttgart’s opening goal away to Celtic. He also described reviewing both successful and unsuccessful moments after matches, making individual situations part of his learning.
His football education began at SV Raitersaich before he entered Nürnberg’s academy in summer 2015. The move from youth football to the senior side came in February 2024, when he made his second-division debut against Kaiserslautern. He quickly became a regular starter, gaining experience in a first-team defence before moving into the Bundesliga.
International youth football supplied another important part of that development. Jeltsch played in Germany’s European Under-17 Championship and Under-17 World Cup triumphs in 2023. He was a regular in both tournament sides before his senior club breakthrough.
He joined Stuttgart from Nürnberg in February 2025 and collected a senior club trophy that May. In the DFB-Pokal final against Arminia Bielefeld, he came off the bench as Stuttgart won 4–2. It was a rapid progression from second-division football to playing in a winning cup final.
Individual recognition followed in October 2025, when the German Football Association awarded him the gold Fritz Walter Medal for players born in 2006. The award recognised his performances during 2024/25 alongside his wider development and conduct.
In September 2026, Jeltsch received his first call-up to Germany’s senior squad. He was an unused substitute against Serbia on 1 October. His route had progressed from youth tournament winner to senior national-team consideration.
Finn Jeltsch currently plays for VfB Stuttgart as a centre-back. He has represented Germany internationally.
