Profile
Career & playing style
Strahinja Pavlović is a left-footed centre-back whose defending begins with a decision to engage. He described himself as aggressive when he arrived at AC Milan; the club also highlighted his aerial duels and intensity. That combination makes him useful on the left of a back line: he can meet a forward early, then give his side a natural left-footed route out of defence.
He developed at Partizan Belgrade and made his senior debut in February 2019. A Serbian Cup followed before a move to Monaco and spells with Cercle Brugge and Basel. He joined Salzburg in 2022, and won an Austrian league title there. His path to Serie A ran through five countries and several different first-team settings.
Serbia gave Pavlović his senior debut in September 2020. At the 2022 World Cup, he scored against Cameroon in a 3-3 group match. He later started Serbia's final group game at EURO 2024 against Denmark, on the left of a three-man defence. The scoreless draw eliminated Serbia at the group stage.
Milan signed him from Salzburg in July 2024. In his first season, the club won the Supercoppa Italiana, although he was an unused substitute in the final against Inter. He did start the May 2025 Coppa Italia final, lining up on the left of a back three as Milan lost to Bologna.
His value is not confined to stopping attacks. In March 2026, he scored opening goals against Cremonese and Torino and received Milan's monthly MVP award. The Cremonese goal came from a late header; the Torino goal was a left-footed strike. Together they showed more than one way for a centre-back to affect a match at the other end.
A September 2026 league match against Lecce offered a clearer example of his work with the ball: from the left of Milan's back three, Pavlović clipped a pass over the defence for Christian Pulisic to control and score. It illustrates the second half of his profile. After winning space or receiving possession, his left foot can turn a defensive position into a direct attacking chance.
