Profile
Christian Pulisic is an American forward who can threaten a defence before the ball reaches him. From a wide starting position, he makes diagonal runs across or behind a full-back, turning a pass into a chance to attack the penalty area.
Born in Hershey, Pennsylvania, on 18 September 1998, he developed with PA Classics before moving to Borussia Dortmund in 2015. He made his senior debut in January 2016. In the 2017 German Cup final, he won the penalty that decided Dortmund’s 2–1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt.
Chelsea signed him in January 2019 and loaned him back to Dortmund for the rest of that season. He joined the London side that summer and, in May 2021, became the first American to play in a men’s Champions League final, coming off the bench in Chelsea’s victory over Manchester City.
He joined AC Milan in July 2023. In the January 2025 Italian Super Cup final against Inter, he controlled Theo Hernández’s cutback and scored the equaliser. He then released Rafael Leão to supply Tammy Abraham’s winner, contributing to two decisive attacks as Milan recovered from 2–0 down to win 3–2.
His senior United States debut came against Guatemala in March 2016. Five years later, he converted the extra-time penalty that won the inaugural Concacaf Nations League final against Mexico. At the 2022 World Cup, his goal in the 1–0 win over Iran sent the Americans into the last 16.
At the 2026 World Cup, he started the United States’ last-16 match against Belgium in Seattle. A 4–1 defeat ended the hosts’ run after they had beaten Bosnia and Herzegovina in the previous knockout round.
His movement helps explain how a winger becomes a scoring threat through the middle. Premier League analysis of his Chelsea performances described bursts through defensive lines and movement into space behind the striker. Alongside his dribbling, those runs give team-mates an option beyond the nearest defender, rather than only a pass towards the touchline.
Christian Pulišić currently plays for AC Milan as a forward. He has represented USA internationally.
