Profile
Vanja Milinković-Savić is a Serbian goalkeeper whose size is only part of the story. His reach and positioning help cover the goal, while quick reactions matter when a shot arrives from close range. Penalty saves have become another distinctive part of his record.
Born in Spain, he developed at Vojvodina and made his senior league debut in Serbia. A spell with Lechia Gdańsk in Poland followed. Torino announced his acquisition in February 2017, effective that July. His route to a regular Serie A place was gradual, including spells away before playing more consistently for Torino from 2021/22.
In 2024/25, Serie A credited Milinković-Savić with four penalty saves and highlighted his positional sense and reflexes. Against Milan in February 2025, he stopped Christian Pulisic's penalty in a 2–1 Torino win. The league named Mile Svilar its best goalkeeper that season; Milinković-Savić's strong year was a separate achievement.
His senior Serbia debut came in a November 2021 friendly against Qatar. He was selected for the 2022 World Cup, where Serbia exited in the group stage. Serbia also named him in its EURO 2024 squad, though the published line-ups show Predrag Rajković in goal for all three group matches. Selection and time on the pitch tell different parts of his international story.
Napoli brought him in from Torino in July 2025, initially on loan with an obligation to buy. He described a different challenge: a goalkeeper may face few shots but still needs to stay alert and give defenders confidence when an opponent creates a chance. That explains his role beyond a saves total.
In December 2025 he saved a Cagliari penalty in a Coppa Italia shootout and converted his own attempt as Napoli advanced. Later that month he started the Supercoppa Italiana final as Napoli beat Bologna 2–0.
Serie A gave him its 2025/26 Fair Play Moment of the Season award after he embraced Bologna goalkeeper Massimo Pessina following Pessina's league debut. It was individual recognition for a gesture rather than a save, and another side of his career.
Vanja Milinković-Savić currently plays for Napoli as a goalkeeper. He has represented Serbia internationally.
