Profile
Paulo Dybala is an Argentine forward whose left foot gives him several ways to unlock a defence. Receiving between midfield and the back line, he can turn towards goal, slip a pass into a striker’s run or create a shooting angle with a quick change of direction.
Born in Laguna Larga on 15 November 1993, he began his professional career with Instituto in Córdoba. After one senior season there, he moved to Palermo in 2012. He helped the Sicilian club win Serie B in 2013/14, then scored 13 league goals on its return to Serie A the following season.
Italy also shaped how he handled pressure on the ball. Dybala told UEFA that training against Gennaro Gattuso at Palermo taught him to protect possession with his body and act faster than opponents.
Juventus signed him in 2015. Across seven seasons in Turin he won five Serie A titles, and he was named the league’s Most Valuable Player in 2020. When he left in 2022, his Juventus record stood at 115 goals in all competitions.
His two goals against Barcelona in April 2017 offered a clear example of his finishing. For the opener, he took Juan Cuadrado’s pass inside the area, turned in a small space and curled a left-footed shot towards the far post. Juventus won that Champions League quarter-final first leg 3–0.
He joined Roma in July 2022 and scored the opening goal of the 2023 Europa League final, running onto Gianluca Mancini’s through ball. Roma eventually lost to Sevilla on penalties after a 1–1 draw, but the move showed his ability to attack space as well as receive between the lines. In March 2025 he had surgery after injuring a hamstring tendon in his left leg, and he did not play again that season. In March 2026 he had arthroscopic surgery on the meniscus of his left knee, a problem that had kept him out since late January.
With Argentina, he made his senior debut in October 2015 and scored in the 3–0 Finalissima win over Italy in June 2022. Later that year he became a World Cup winner, coming off the bench in the final and converting Argentina’s second penalty in the shootout against France. He was not selected for Argentina’s squad at the 2026 World Cup.
Paulo Dybala currently plays for AS Roma as a forward. He has represented Argentina internationally.
