Profile
Career & playing style
Nikola Krstović is a centre-forward whose threat begins before the shot: he can contest a long ball, move behind defenders and finish after receiving from a teammate. His goals against Lecce in April 2026 and Sassuolo that August show two versions, one from a central through ball and the other after he won a duel under a long pass.
He learned the game at Zeta Golubovci, his hometown club in Montenegro, and made a first-team debut there in April 2016 while still a teenager. The route outward was gradual: a move to Red Star Belgrade in 2019, a loan at Grafičar, and a return for Red Star's Serbian league-and-cup double in 2020/21. His individual scoring awards came in Montenegro and Slovakia.
At DAC Dunajská Streda he led the Slovak top division's scorers in 2022/23. Lecce signed him from DAC in August 2023, taking him into Serie A. He scored in each of his first three league appearances, then produced his first Serie A brace away to Empoli in January 2025.
Atalanta signed him from Lecce in August 2025. His first season there accelerated after the turn of 2026: he won the club's fan-voted Player of the Month award in January and April, while Marco Carnesecchi won the season award ahead of him. In April, Krstović returned to Lecce and scored after receiving a pass through the centre and placing his finish beyond the goalkeeper.
His game extends beyond the final touch. Most of his league shots in 2025/26 came from inside the penalty area, showing how often he found positions close to goal. He also set up Mario Pašalić's Coppa Italia equaliser against Lazio. In August 2026, he came off the bench against Sassuolo, fought for a long ball from Marco Carnesecchi and scored the winner.
For Montenegro, Krstović made his senior debut against Greece in March 2022. In the September 2026 Nations League comeback against Cyprus, he scored the equaliser and assisted the winner. That sequence mirrors the two sides of his club contribution: getting on the end of attacks and helping another player finish them.
