Profile
Juan Miranda is a Spanish left back whose crossing gives an attack a route into the penalty area from the flank. His deliveries can create danger before a teammate takes the final shot, as a move in Spain's 2024 Olympic final showed.
Miranda's route to senior football began in Real Betis's academy before he moved to Barcelona's youth system in 2014. After progressing through Barcelona B, he made his first-team debut against Cultural Leonesa in the Copa del Rey on 31 October 2018. A loan to Schalke in 2019/20 gave him Bundesliga experience, but Barcelona brought him back rather than extending it.
He returned to Betis on loan for 2020/21 and joined permanently in 2021. The homecoming became memorable in the 2022 Copa del Rey final: Miranda came on against Valencia and converted the decisive spot kick as Betis won the shootout. It was a team title sealed by one of their own academy graduates.
Spain's youth teams offered another stage for his left-sided work. He was part of the 2019 European Under-19 champions, then started the 2023 Under-21 final, which Spain lost to England; UEFA's observers subsequently selected him in their team of that tournament. In the 2024 Olympic final against France, he started again. His cross helped create Spain's second goal before an extra-time victory secured gold.
Miranda joined Bologna permanently in July 2024. His crossing became a visible part of their attack: a Serie A match preview in March 2026 singled out his high crossing volume for Bologna during the 2025/26 season. He also played the full 2025 Coppa Italia final against Milan, which Bologna won.
His attacking contribution was not limited to crosses: he had an early shot saved in the first leg of Bologna's 2026 Europa League quarter-final against Aston Villa. Miranda started both legs, though Bologna lost the tie.
Juan Miranda currently plays for Bologna as a left-back.
