Profile
Marcus Thuram is a French forward whose strength and speed give an attack two useful options: combining with teammates or running beyond the defence. He can help connect play, then become the runner a teammate releases when possession turns into a counterattack.
Born in Parma while his father Lilian was playing there, Thuram developed in Sochaux’s youth system. He moved to Guingamp in 2017 and scored 17 goals over two seasons, including one in the 2019 League Cup win that knocked out Paris Saint-Germain.
He joined Borussia Mönchengladbach in July 2019. His European breakthrough included a Champions League debut against Inter at San Siro in October 2020. His fourth season with Gladbach, 2022/23, brought 13 Bundesliga goals.
Inter signed him in July 2023, and he won Serie A in his first season. His 13 league goals in 2023/24 included strikes in both Milan derbies: a finish in a 5-1 win and another goal in April’s 2-1 victory, which secured the title.
Thuram’s part in Inter’s 2025 Champions League semi-final against Barcelona shows how his movement works. UEFA highlighted Inter’s strikers positioning themselves between a centre-back and full-back, opening a route for diagonal passes behind the defence. In one sequence, Henrikh Mkhitaryan won possession and immediately sent Thuram through on goal.
That European run ended with a 5-0 defeat by Paris Saint-Germain in the final. In 2025/26, Thuram helped Inter win a Serie A and Coppa Italia double. He scored 13 league goals that season, including one in the 2-0 victory over Parma that clinched the championship.
With France, he won the European Under-19 title in 2016 and made his senior debut in November 2020. He came off the bench in the 2022 World Cup final and supplied the pass for Kylian Mbappé’s second goal as France finished runners-up. At the 2026 World Cup, he made one appearance, against Iraq, in the squad that finished fourth.
Marcus Thuram currently plays for Inter as a striker. He has represented France internationally.
