Profile
Davide Frattesi is a central midfielder whose signature attacking move begins away from the ball. He waits for a gap between defenders, then runs into the box while attention is on the pass or striker. That timing can turn possession into a close-range chance. It explains why a midfielder so often appears at the end of moves rather than simply starting them.
Born in Rome, he spent time in Lazio's and Roma's youth systems before joining Sassuolo in 2017. Loans to Ascoli, Empoli and Monza brought senior football in Serie B. At Monza he added goals to his game; Sassuolo then brought him into its first team. His forward runs became a regular part of its midfield play.
Inter brought him from Sassuolo in July 2023, initially on loan with an obligation to buy. In Milan, late arrivals around the penalty area remained his calling card. Inter's 2023/24 Serie A title included stoppage-time goals from Frattesi against Verona and Udinese. They showed how his movement could change a match even when he did not start it.
The clearest European example came in May 2025. Introduced against Barcelona, Frattesi scored in extra time to send Inter into the Champions League final. Inter lost that final to Paris Saint-Germain. He was also part of Inter's 2025/26 Serie A title-winning squad and came on in the May win over Parma that clinched it. Ten days later he added the Coppa Italia, as Inter beat Lazio 2–0 in the final to complete a domestic double.
He made his senior Italy debut against Germany in June 2022. In March 2026 he entered the World Cup play-off final against Bosnia and Herzegovina, which Italy lost on penalties. In September he started against Türkiye in the Nations League and scored after reacting first to a saved shot, showing his alertness near goal.
In August 2026 Frattesi moved from Inter to Lazio on loan. His return to a club from his childhood development linked a new senior chapter to his earliest football years. His game is best understood through the space he attacks: he begins in central midfield, then becomes an extra runner near goal when defenders have to track the ball.
Davide Frattesi currently plays for Lazio as a central midfielder. He has represented Italy internationally.
