Career & playing style
Amine Sbaï is a left-sided attacker who likes to receive near a defender, invite a challenge and change direction to open a route inside. He can then combine in tight spaces instead of relying only on a run down the touchline. Beating one opponent can create a passing angle as well as space for his own finish.
His route to senior football was gradual. Born in Sidi Kacem and developed around Nîmes, he has said Nîmes Olympique did not keep him as a teenager. He continued through youth and amateur football, made his senior start with Olympique d'Alès in 2019 and moved to FC Sète in 2021. Grenoble brought him into Ligue 2 in 2022, his first professional step.
Grenoble gave that one-against-one game a bigger stage. In a March 2023 Coupe de France quarter-final against Lyon, Sbaï came off the bench and scored after sidestepping the goalkeeper; Grenoble lost 2-1. By January 2024, the club described his ability to beat a marker and accelerate as a way of creating chances. His second Ligue 2 campaign brought six league goals, evidence of a more productive attacking role.
An August 2024 move took him from Grenoble to Al Fateh in Saudi Arabia. Sbaï later said the heat and change of life took time to adjust to; Angers' account of his Saudi league season records five goals and four assists. The experience left his wish to play in the top French division intact.
He joined Angers in October 2025 and began in Ligue 1 against Monaco on 18 October. Angers' match report records Sbaï driving into the box to set up a headed chance, linking with the same teammate again and later hitting the post after running onto a pass. None became a goal or assist, but the sequence shows how carrying and combining can lead him behind a defence.
His international path moved forward in 2026. Angers reported that Sbaï was part of Morocco's World Cup squad. It specifically noted that he did not enter the knockout win over the Netherlands; the result was a team milestone, not an individual appearance. He came on as a late substitute in the 2–0 quarter-final defeat by France. Across successive levels, the central idea of his game remains taking on a defender and turning that duel into an opening for the attack.
