Profile
Hákon Arnar Haraldsson is an Icelandic attacking midfielder who links and finishes attacks. He can work in central pockets or from a wider starting position, combine in little space and turn up near goal. Copenhagen's head coach also singled out his pressing: his contribution does not end when his side loses the ball.
Born in Akranes, he made his first-team debut with ÍA Akranes at 15. In 2019 he moved to FC Copenhagen’s youth setup, then reached its senior side in 2021.
Haraldsson contributed to Copenhagen’s 2022 Danish league title and scored against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League group stage that autumn. Iceland’s football association named him its male Footballer of the Year for 2022. Copenhagen added a league and cup double in 2022/23 before he joined Lille in July 2023.
Lille used him across the attack in his early seasons, in the middle and on the flanks. That range matters because he is more than a final touch: his passing can connect a move, his work without the ball can press an opponent, and he can still attack the area to finish it.
A Champions League last-16 match at Dortmund in March 2025 showed the finishing side. Lille had fallen behind when Jonathan David turned and released Haraldsson into the box. Haraldsson controlled the pass and scored the equaliser in a 1-1 first leg. The move depended on his run into the box as much as on his close-range finish.
The creative side was especially visible against Le Havre in May 2026. He had five shots, played four passes that led to shots and scored a goal in that single match. It illustrates why the same player can be involved at both ends of an attacking move: he finds chances for teammates and takes chances himself.
His responsibilities also grew with Iceland, whom he was captaining by January 2026. In August that year he scored from an Olivier Giroud pass against Paris Saint-Germain, playing behind Giroud as the game ended 2-2. At Lille, his role around a centre-forward gives him routes to both create and finish chances.
Hákon Haraldsson currently plays for Lille as an attacking midfielder. He has represented Iceland internationally.
