Profile
Igor Paixão built his European career as a left winger who can make a defender worry about two different endings to the same run. He can drive infield to shoot, but his delivery from the flank also gives a teammate a chance to finish. The choice matters: opponents cannot simply show him away from goal and assume the danger has passed.
Born in Macapá in northern Brazil, Paixão came through Coritiba before Feyenoord brought him to Rotterdam in summer 2022. He began as cover on the wings, then earned more starts during the 2022/23 Dutch title campaign. His goal in the May 2023 win over Go Ahead Eagles helped seal that championship.
Feyenoord came to use him regularly on the left. The route inside is clear in two very different goals: a long-range strike against Utrecht in March 2024, later voted the Eredivisie Goal of the Year, and a curling finish after a dribble against Groningen in April 2025. Those moments show the threat behind his first touch: carrying the ball changes the shooting angle before the defender can reset.
His contribution was wider than spectacular shots. Paixão scored the winner against NEC as Feyenoord took the 2024 Dutch Cup, and the club added the Johan Cruyff Shield that August. In February 2025 his early strike gave Feyenoord a Champions League first-leg win over AC Milan. A panel of former Netherlands internationals then awarded him the 2025 Golden Shoe.
Paixão moved to Marseille in August 2025. He marked the next Champions League campaign by scoring twice in the opening 12 minutes of a 4-0 win over Ajax that September. The double showed how quickly he could turn a game, but Marseille also gave him chances to supply others from wide areas rather than finishing every move himself.
That second route surfaced in March 2026. Introduced at half-time against Lyon, he scored from distance and later sent in the ball Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang converted during a 3-2 comeback. A week later, he cut the ball back for Marseille's winner at Toulouse. Across those episodes, his playing style is less a fixed trick than a recurring decision: attack the space for his own shot or use the space he has created to find a teammate.
Igor Paixão currently plays for Marseille as a left winger.
