Profile
Lamine Camara is a Senegalese midfielder whose game connects winning the ball with moving it forward. He makes himself available when his team builds from the back, carries possession into space and presses opponents after the ball is lost. That combination lets him contribute to the start of an attack as well as its final pass.
His development began in Senegal, including a move to Génération Foot in 2019. The academy provided the bridge to European football: he joined Metz in February 2023 while the French club were in Ligue 2, then played a part in their promotion that spring.
International football supplied another important stage in that breakthrough year. Camara helped Senegal win the African Nations Championship, receiving the man-of-the-match award in the final against Algeria in February 2023. The following month, Senegal won the Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations and he was named the tournament's best player, with CAF highlighting his pressing and chance creation.
At Metz, his movement with the ball and work recovering possession made him a midfielder who could influence both ends of the pitch. He also showed the confidence to try something unexpected, scoring against Monaco from beyond halfway in October 2023. Monaco signed him in July 2024, taking his development into a different setting.
The move demanded adjustment. In August 2024, Camara described a faster game at Monaco and the need to stay concentrated, while crediting experienced teammates such as Denis Zakaria with helping him settle. His value was visible in ordinary passages of play too: receiving in the build-up, recovering loose possession and supplying passes that led to shots.
For Senegal's senior side, he scored twice against Gambia at the Africa Cup of Nations in January 2024, including a finish into the top corner from the edge of the area. He subsequently played at the 2026 World Cup, where Senegal's campaign ended against Belgium in the first knockout round.
By September 2026, Camara was describing a further change in his responsibilities. He said Filipe Luís had asked him to play deeper as a number six, improve his use of the ball and dictate play. Learning to remain calm in possession added another task to his running and defensive work: setting the rhythm for teammates around him.
Lamine Camara currently plays for Monaco as a defensive midfielder. He has represented Senegal internationally.
