Profile
Julio Enciso is an attacking midfielder whose best work often begins before the final shot. He can receive between midfield and defence, turn towards goal and make a marker choose between closing him down and leaving a passing lane open. He has also played wide and as a forward. That flexibility lets him carry an attack, combine in a tight space or finish it himself.
Born in Caaguazú, Paraguay, Enciso entered Libertad's youth system and reached its senior side as a teenager. He was part of the club's squads for the 2021 and 2022 Apertura titles. Brighton brought him to England in 2022. At Libertad he had already played as a winger, centre-forward and No. 10, creating as well as scoring from different starting positions.
His first Brighton season supplied a vivid example of his shooting threat. In May 2023 he struck from distance against Manchester City in a draw that secured Brighton's Europa League place. The Premier League voted the strike its 2022/23 Goal of the Season. That was an individual award for one goal, separate from Brighton's European qualification.
Enciso joined Ipswich on loan in January 2025 and scored in draws at Chelsea and Everton. He moved permanently from Brighton to Strasbourg in September 2025. A UEFA technical report on an April 2026 Conference League semi-final described him as the marked No. 10 in a Strasbourg side that used positional rotations to play through pressure. In the return leg against Rayo Vallecano, his cross and a pass into the box created openings, although Strasbourg lost the tie.
With Paraguay at the 2026 World Cup, Enciso took part in five matches. He scored against Germany in a round-of-32 game that Paraguay won on penalties, reaching the last 16. It was a match contribution, beyond simply being named in a squad, and it added an international knockout milestone to his club career.
In August 2026, Enciso returned to Ipswich on a permanent move from Strasbourg. His route through Paraguay, England and France shows how the same instincts can serve different jobs: carrying into a shooting position, drawing attention as a central creator, or releasing a teammate once that attention opens space.
Julio Enciso currently plays for Ipswich as an attacking midfielder. He has represented Paraguay internationally.
