Profile
Victor Osimhen is a Nigerian striker who makes defenders work before the ball reaches him. He attacks crosses with his leap, darts towards close-range chances and chases opponents trying to pass out from the back.
Born in Lagos on 29 December 1998, he developed at Ultimate Strikers Academy. His international breakthrough came at the 2015 Under-17 World Cup in Chile: ten goals in seven matches helped Nigeria win the tournament and earned him the Golden Boot.
His European route took him through Wolfsburg and Charleroi before Lille signed him in 2019. He scored 18 goals in all competitions during his single season in France, then moved to Napoli in July 2020.
At Napoli, his goals became part of a historic team achievement. He finished the 2022/23 Serie A season as leading scorer with 26 goals as the club won its first league title in 33 years. That December, he received the CAF men’s Player of the Year award.
A September 2024 loan took him to Galatasaray. His 26 league goals helped the club win the 2024/25 Süper Lig title, alongside the Turkish Cup. The move became permanent in July 2025, after that double-winning season.
Another championship followed in 2025/26. Osimhen scored twice against Antalyaspor on 9 May 2026 in the match that secured Galatasaray’s fourth consecutive league title.
With Nigeria, he reached the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final, held in February 2024. At the 2025 edition, which concluded in January 2026, he headed the opening goal and set up Akor Adams in the quarter-final win over Algeria. Nigeria eventually finished third, beating Egypt on penalties. Before that tournament, Nigeria had missed out on the 2026 World Cup after losing the African qualifying play-off final to DR Congo on penalties in November 2025, a game Osimhen left injured at half-time.
Two Champions League matches show how his physical qualities become chances. Against Frankfurt in March 2023, he rose to meet Matteo Politano’s cross and later finished a team move from close range. Against Ajax the previous October, he sprinted at Daley Blind, stole possession and scored. His threat comes from attacking the delivery and making a defender’s hesitation costly.
Victor Osimhen currently plays for Galatasaray as a striker. He has represented Nigeria internationally.
