Overview

Mladá Boleslav in brief

Football in Mlada Boleslav began in 1902, when secondary school students, among them Zdenek Ponec, formed a team called Studentska XI. The club gives 1902 as its founding year. Before 1948 the town had three clubs: Mladoboleslavsky SK, founded in 1910, SK Aston Villa, named after the English club, and Slavoj. Between 1948 and 1950 they were merged into a club backed by the Skoda car works, later called Spartak and then Auto Skoda. It took the name FK Mlada Boleslav in 1990. The team plays in blue and white at the Mestsky stadion, which opened in 1965 and has been called Lokotrans Arena since 2019.

The club moved between the second and third tiers until 1977, then spent 15 seasons in the second tier up to 1992. After Skoda Auto cut its support, it fell to the fourth tier in 1995. The construction firm Gema bought the club in 2001, and it won the second division in 2003-04 to reach the top flight for the first time. It finished second in 2005-06 and third in 2006-07 and 2013-14. It reached the UEFA Cup group stage in 2006-07, after beating Marseille 4-3 on aggregate, and again in 2007-08. It won the Czech Cup in 2011 and 2016, and reached the Conference League league phase in 2024-25.
