Overview

Coventry in brief

Founded in 1883 as Singers FC, Coventry City represent a Midlands city shaped by manufacturing, reconstruction and modern design. The club adopted sky-blue colours under Jimmy Hill, giving rise to the enduring nickname the Sky Blues. Coventry play at the Coventry Building Society Arena, their home since 2005 apart from periods spent ground-sharing during disputes over the stadium's ownership and use.

Coventry have won second-tier championships in 1966-67 and 2025-26, as well as the FA Cup in 1987 and the EFL Trophy in 2017. Hill's Sky Blue Revolution carried the club from the third tier to the top flight, beginning a 34-season stay among England's leading clubs. The 1987 cup side under John Sillett and George Curtis added a defining national honour through energetic, collective football.
