Arminia Bielefeld

Arminia Bielefeld were founded on 3 May 1905 as 1. Bielefelder FC Arminia, named after Arminius, the Cheruscan chieftain. A merger with a local gymnastics club lasted only from 1919 to 1922, and the present name, Deutscher Sportclub Arminia Bielefeld, dates from 1926. Known as Die Arminen or Die Blauen, they play in black, white and blue. Their home since 1926 has been the ground fans call the Alm, named SchucoArena since 2004 under a sponsorship deal.

Arminia have won the 2. Bundesliga four times and the 3. Liga twice, in 2015 and 2025. Their eighth promotion to the Bundesliga, in 2020, equalled Nurnberg's record, and by 2026 they had spent 19 seasons in the top flight, the last in 2021-22. In 1972 the club was forcibly relegated for its part in the 1971 bribery scandal. In 2025, as a third-tier side, Arminia knocked out holders Bayer Leverkusen in the DFB-Pokal semi-finals before losing the final 4-2 to VfB Stuttgart.
