Overview

Eintracht Braunschweig in brief

Eintracht Braunschweig were founded on 15 December 1895 as a football and cricket club, FuCC Eintracht, becoming FC Eintracht in 1906 and SV Eintracht in 1920 before settling on the current name in 1949. They play in blue and yellow, the colours of the old Duchy of Brunswick's flag, and the crest carries a red lion based on the city's arms; the club are known as Die Lowen, the Lions. Since 1923 they have played at the Eintracht-Stadion on Hamburger Strasse.

Braunschweig were one of the 16 founding members of the Bundesliga in 1963 and became German champions in 1966-67 under coach Helmuth Johannsen, the club's only national title. In 1973 they became the first Bundesliga side to carry a shirt sponsor, Jagermeister, getting round the ban by making its logo the club crest. Relegated in 1985, they returned in 2013 under Torsten Lieberknecht for one season. They won the 3. Liga in 2010-11 and kept their 2. Bundesliga place in a 2025 play-off against Saarbrucken.
