Overview

Sochaux in brief

FC Sochaux were founded on 14 June 1928 by Peugeot employees, with the backing of company director Jean-Pierre Peugeot, to give the carmaker's workers a leisure activity. In 1930 they absorbed AS Montbeliard, becoming Sochaux-Montbeliard. Known as Les Lionceaux and playing in yellow and blue, they have been at home since 1931 on the site of the Stade Auguste-Bonal, first called Stade de la Forge, renamed after the war for a club official, and rebuilt between 1997 and 2000.

Founder members of the professional league in 1932, Sochaux were champions of France in 1935 and 1938 and won the Coupe de France in 1937 and 2007. They added the Coupe de la Ligue in 2004 and second-division titles in 1947 and 2001, and reached the UEFA Cup semi-finals in 1980-81. Relegated from Ligue 1 in 2014, they were administratively relegated to the Championnat National in 2023 and returned to Ligue 2 in 2026 as National runners-up.
