Overview

Boulogne in brief

US Boulogne were founded in December 1898 as Union Sportive Boulonnaise in Boulogne-sur-Mer. The club became Union Sportive du Grand Boulogne in 1969 and later took its current name, Union Sportive Boulogne Cote d'Opale, often shortened to USBCO. They play in red and black. Home matches are at the Stade de la Liberation, where building work began in 1949 and which was renovated and enlarged in 2007, around the time of the club's return to the professional leagues.

Boulogne turned professional in 1935 and played in Division 2 until the Second World War, and their best Coupe de France run was a 1936-37 semi-final lost 6-0 to Sochaux. They were back in Division 2 from 1959 to 1979, and after a long spell in the lower divisions they won promotion to Ligue 2 in 2007 and reached Ligue 1 in 2009, but finished 19th in their only top-flight season. Relegated to National in 2012 and to National 2 in 2022, they came back to Ligue 2 in 2025.
